DEVELOP SUCCESS ATTITUDE , STUDY TWO
TOPIC: START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE
Text ; “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.” Ecc 9:10
There was an Evangelist in Nigeria, Ebenezer Obey , when he was still singing his philosophical songs, he sang about a man , his son and his donkey. His song targeted a man who was searching for happiness and he wants to please all men. He listed different towns and places , somehow he was tired of following his elusive dream.
A lot of believers had worked in places , done everything from picking fruit, driving cabs, moving vans, street peddler, cleaning, washing dishes at a cafeteria , married and divorce once or twice, never live in one place more than a year at a time. Most Christians are restless, thinking that grass will be greener on the other side of the fence, and as such , they kept jumping fences. But is the grass ever greener on the other side ? The search is still unending and often disappointment. The grass is always greener somewhere else.
Nothing is more pathetic than the individual who is always looking for a great opportunity, praying and hoping for good things to happen, without first exploring the potential or grasping the opportunities he has now at his fingertips. My advice is , “Start with what you have now”. Whatever may be your goal , look at your present job as an opportunity for growth and development. The key is preparation.
Let me ask you some questions , What are the abilities and strengths that you have now? What are the things you are most interested in ? Have you ever thought of using your special abilities and interest to improve your present Job?
There was a story of an Evangelist who was invited to preached in a place , so he went with his last born son. At the entrance of the church , there was an offering box for members , they both put $5 each and some members to did. At the end of the service , he was told to open the box and take whatever offering there. He was amazed to find $30 and that was his transport money. The fact of the story is , you control how much you get out of life by how much you put into it”.
There was another story of a farmer in East Africa who sold his farm and began to search for diamond else where. The man that bought his farm later found a large and unusual stone in a stream that flowed through the farm. The stone turn out to be a great diamond of enormous value, he later discovered that the farm was covered with them. The first farmer failed to discovered what diamonds looks like, he could have become the richest around that place. Diamonds don’t look like diamonds in their rough, uncut state. Opportunities, must be refined within your own mind and attitude. Great opportunities are around you, make use of them. Remember , don’t disregard or disrespect your present situation. There are other people who look at your present opportunities with envy.
Most of the time, adversities are often opportunities in disguise, try and dig a little deeper and find the diamond of success that lies hidden in your current circumstances. There’s one more important thing for you to consider, “make God your partner”. When you do that, all God has is yours. God will put as much as is needed into your partnership to guarantee its success. God ask Moses in Ex 4:4 “ What is that in your hand” ? He said a rod. A simple rod in the hands of Moses became a symbol of power and authority to deliver Israel from 400 years of captivity. Like Moses , God will use what you offer Him to lead you forward to a better life.
Remember , start with what you have, your greatest opportunity for success and fulfillment may be within your reach at this very moment .
